The Bailout -- Tax Treatment

My sister pointed out something that got me more upset about the bailout. The financial institutions will be able to get losses to carry over for years to come. The media is focusing on executive compensation but no one apparently caught the favorable tax consequence issue. If taxpayers are paying for this thing, then at least the institutions should not get favorable tax treatment. That totally sucks.

For or Against the Bail-Out?

So I'm not going to bore you by reiterating what's in the news already. If you are in the U.S. (or maybe even abroad), then you probably know by now that the federal government is planning a bail-out of the wall street banks to the tune close to a $1 trillion (if you round up... ever think of that??). A quick poll. Who is in favor? Who is not in favor?

To Cheat or Not to Cheat

I was fairly bemused (a little appalled) to read this wsj article about how business schools had to cancel GMAT scores of quite a number of business school students/applications.

Apparently, there were folks that were selling questions so people could cheat. But what amused me amidst the main story was this line from the article:
Donald L. McCabe, a Rutgers University professor of management, has surveyed 200,000 students over 19 years and concluded that those in business school cheat more than those in other disciplines.
Sooo... does that mean business folks are more inclined to cheat/lie if you take the logical conclusion that those graduating from business school go into business?

Malibu State Creek Park

To de-stress from overworking, I hiked with my mom at Malibu State Creek Park over the labor day weekend. Apparently, MASH was filmed there. Here are some pictures.

Lone dirt road.

My mom. =)

The State Park was surrounded by mountains. This was one view.

Road lined with oak trees.

Those folks hiked up to middle of nowhere! They are tiny because they were really really far away.
As my mom and I started hiking up to see a lake.
Which was this lake.
And that's me!

It was a beautiful (but hot) day to hike around. In all, a leisurely (some would call, walk not hike) hike around my mom's favorite state park.

Eating Offsprings of Cloned Animals

Do you know what you are eating? Apparently, the US food supply currently contains offsprings and products (milk) from offsprings of cloned animals. After reading this wsj article, I think I am going to start eating Ben & Jerry ice cream (to show consumers do care about corporate policies) and unfortunately continue my policy of not eating beef.
