Leaving the field of Kansas.

There were fields of sunflowers too! That was pretty cool.

The rainbow off to a distance.

We headed into Colorado!

From 70, we took I-25 to veer off to the Rocky Mountains.

I had lunch with a friend of mine, Susan, at Denver, Colorado before heading into the Rocky Mountains.

Denver skyline.

Heading into the Rocky Mountains, we had to pass Roosevelt National Forest. Rocks dotted with trees made this entrance incredibly dramatic.

River running next to the rocky mountainside.

Roosevelt National Forest sign.

Couldn't help feeling a little awed driving through this mountain range.

Peaks of the Rocky Mountains.

That's me with a great background.

Can you tell how huge the mountains are?

There were lots of rivers, streams running through the Rocky Mountains.

We saw a lot of of houses (ski lodges??) and developments which seems to ruin a bit of the nature scene.

Heading into the Rocky Mountains.

We saw a deer!! I got a very blurry shot passing by.

This picture can't do justice to the panoramic view of the mountains and the vast preserved lands.

Stream running down another part of the Rocky Mountains.

As we drove through, there were lots more trees.

We were rather intrepid. I drove my Toyota Camry through "Old Fall River Road." This one way road up the mountain is closed during winter. The road was VERY narrow, steep, unpaved. Needless to say, I was crawling (at maximum of *gasp* 15 mph). I didn't want to fall off and disappear.

We stopped at Chasm Falls.

View of the Chasm Falls running through the Rocky Mountains.

Close-up of part of the Chasm Falls.

Taking the Old Fall River Road, we climbed REALLY high! We could see the valley and the mountains from the road.

Higher as we went, the trees thinned out.

And was replaced by small remnant of the glaciers!

Not much left of the glacier, but still pretty cool to get close to see it at the peak of the mountains.

Small waterfall while driving through the road.

Another shot of the glacier from a distance.

The Old River Fall Road was not in the best condition, especially when it was sprinkling!

We literally passed right by the glaciers!! We had to stop to take a close picture.

Another close picture of the glaciers from Alpine Visitor Center.

On our way down, we saw a couple of deer. They didn't seem to care that kzillion people were stopping to take a picture of them.

And another deer grazing by the road.

Lake Granby as we headed out of the Rocky Mountains.

We headed into Eisenhower Tunnel to cut through the mountain for our stop, Frisco, Colorado. Posted by Picasa
